A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
Starting off the week will be the World Record Attempt for Largest Toga Party, held at Tru on Sunday. This has been officially approved by Guinness World Records themselves and according to RAG Week Coordinator Imogen Stevenson, “looks to be one of the best nights of the week”.
On Monday, it’s RAG’s annual Blagathon! The event will take place in Derwent Bar. This year’s auction promises students the chance to bid on “great prizes”, before heading into town the next night (Tuesday) on the YUSU Viking Raid, which will be held in conjunction with RAG this time around. On Wednesday night, it’s the RAG Slags and Drags event, happening at Yates. This is an amazing chance for the boys to come out of the closet and dress up, and girls to dress down, all in the name of charity!
All this week college heats for Mr. and Mrs. York have been taking place in every college on campus. On Thursday night Week 5, the grand finals take place at the Courtyard with the 7 college couples competing against each other to raise the most the money, in hopes of becoming 2010’s Mr. and Mrs. York. The winning couple will be leading the RAG Parade on Saturday, which Imogen says is a “great honour”.
Friday night will see the various colleges hold separate pre-parade events to create just the right amount of hype for the next day, when the RAG Parade will take York by storm, with the whole university descending on to the streets of York to raise as much money as possible. Imogen told the Yorker, “The RAG Parade will be the best one yet with the brilliant theme of movies.” Each college will be dressed up according to different genres as they parade the streets, making the walk through town “more thrilling than a walk down the red carpet”.
Just when you think it’s all over, RAG Goes to Hollywood and will definitely bring you along! On Saturday night, the Courtyard will be all glammed-up, with a Hollywood themed RAG bash to complete an “entire day of stardom” and to finish up an “amazingly fun week of fundraising”.
According to Imogen, the Toga party, Mr. & Mrs. York and the RAG Bash will “define an amazing week”. Tickets for these 3 events will be available online or with each college’s RAG representatives and are priced at 7.50 BPS in total for all three events. Tickets for the Viking Raid are also available online, priced at 7.50 BPS as well, with an optional 1.50 BPS donation for RAG.
