A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
The club had talked about how to spend any profits they had made in 'The Apprentice - York' after teams had asked where the money was set to go. The committee now plan to spend any profits will be reinvested in their club.
The club is sponsored by company KPMG, and Laura Williams, who takes her position as Chairwomen of the new committee as of Friday week nine, is keen to build the profile of the club and that of it's biggest project, 'The Apprentice.'
As the club is aiming to emulate the operations of a business, Williams said that any profits to improve its facilities and advertising across campus as well as improving awareness and getting more students involved in the scheme.
She said “we receive no funding from YUSU so can’t really afford to donate any of it at the moment”.
The club is currently in the process of planning an event with Leeds and Sheffield Universities that will be of a similar theme to their campus-wide challenge ‘The Apprentice - York’.

The event is planned for Autumn 2007 and should see the three universities which are linked by the White Rose Centre for Excellence in the Teaching and Learning of Enterprise (CETLE) organise a joint event across the three areas.
It is hoped that the event will get more students involved in business competitions. Williams said “the event is going to be huge” and believes its will be a huge success for the club.
Future funding for the club is hope to be secured by applying for government grants and Williams hopes to see large-scale events such as 'The Apprentice - York' become a regular occurrence for the University.
