Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.

Suzy Dodd: I've been Charities and Communities rep for Langwith JCRC, and I'm currently Langwith Campaigns rep, YUSU Volunteering P&P rep and RAG Hit Squads officer, so I think these will give me the benefit of knowing how to effectively organise and publicise events.
Luke Sandford: I sit on Campaigns Committee as an Ordinary Member, So I have been involved in the changes to campaigns like Portering, Rent Banding and HE funding which gives us both a good base on which to progress with them from. I also have experience organising as Society Coordinator for Big D and Speakers rep in the Club of PEP which will be key for planning the larger campaigns.
SD & LS: We decided to run for Campaigns officers because we want to make a difference for students, and because we work well together as a team. We would not have run if we didn't think we were capable of fulfilling the role; we think we can make some really positive changes this year. We decided to run in the run up to the elections, looking at our experience and wanting to take our involvement in YUSU campaigns to the next level where we could be more involved in setting the agenda for campaigns.
SD & LS: Students should vote for us because of our policies which we want to work on, but more importantly than that because we have the experience and enthusiasm to make a campaign group work. We think that the role of the Campaigns Officers is to respond to students' needs throughout the year, so we're trying to leave ourselves enough space to do this as possible by not having too many policies already.
SD & LS: Our key policies surround the issues as we perceive them at the moment: push for more society spaces in the new Hes East developments... but not at the expense of services on Hes West, especially portering and college bars; increase awareness of the issues surrounding the HE fee increase, and take action following the results of the general election; coordinate college campaigns concerns by adding the position of College Campaigns Coordinator on the committee.
SD & LS: We think that Jason and Chris have done brilliantly this year, but we feel that they could have been more organised - we will improve the organisation of the committee by adding the position of Secretary. Little things like more clear action points for committee members will make campaigns more cohesive, especially given other YUSU Officers stating their desire to work with Campaigns Committee.
SD: To date, the best thing I've done at uni has been getting involved with Langwith's JCRC. Without that strong college base, I'd never have found my way onto all the amazing committees I'm a part of now.
LS: Getting involved with YUSU. Whatever people say about it being cliquey I have found everyone within YUSU extremely welcoming and supportive of anyone who wants to get involved.
SD: Sadly I was massively deprived as a child, but from the little I've seen of Sesame Street I'd have to go with the Count. Mostly because of this...
LS: I like the Cookie Monster, he is a single issue guy but he knows what he wants. Also Hoots the Owl, who no one knows but he once taught the Cookie Monster about eating healthily through the medium of a jazz song.
