A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
The five day event will be opened by a guest speaker who according to Press and Publicity Officer Matthew Freckelton, “has been a staple for all the Apprentices shown on the BBC”.
York Apprentice will see sixteen teams of four students compete for £1200, the largest cash prize that the competition has awarded yet. When asked what the challenges will involve, Freckelton, not giving anything away, told the Yorker, “This year’s Apprentice will see the best bits from last year’s event comprised with some new and exciting ideas.”
The award winning Entrepreneurs Society will also be hoping to surpass the amount raised for charity last year with £3300 being raised for the Newlife Foundation, a local Yorkshire charity that cares for disabled and terminally ill children.
Applications will open on May 10 on the York Apprentice site with hopefuls being advised to apply early.
