YUSU was nominated for its ‘University of York Campus Tour’ video, which was created in August 2010 to introduce new students to the university.
The video, made up of 2683 images, shows a stop motion tour of the University campus, travelling around places such as the colleges, 22 acres and Central Hall.
It has so far had 7,554 hits on Youtube and proved very popular with freshers.
It is accompanied by videos of all the colleges, showing student accommodation tours.
Tim Ngwena, YUSU President, told The Yorker: "It's great to have recognition at a national level for the work that officers and college chairs put into the videos. I hope we can go all the way and win the award."
"It was very much an objective of this year's team to delve into technology and use varied social media to reach out to students and it suited the challenges we faced this year. Next year these may be different and more difficult," he added.
YUSU faces competition in the category from the University of Derby Students’ Union and a joint nomination from Liverpool Guild of Students and Liverpool Students’ Union.

NUS President Aaron Porter said: “I am very impressed by the quality of the entries this year. It has been an outstanding 12 months for the student movement and the nominations for this year’s NUS Awards back this up.”
“I would like to congratulate everyone who has entered for making it a great contest to judge. Good luck to all those who have been shortlisted for their outstanding work.”
The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Leeds on 20 July.
