Finance Director of York Entrepeneurs, Richard Simm told the yorker: "We're already looking at judges and Greg Dyke is a possibility, but it depends if he's free on that date."
The competition is set for Wednesday to Saturday on Week 7 this term. Simm tipped the yorker that teams can expect to be out in Leeds and Sheffield on the Wednesday and Thursday doing "buying and selling" challenges.
The competition has estimated overheads of around £7000 with any profits being re-invested into York Entrepeneurs. Simm said: "We don't run the event for profit. Most of the money is put forward by sponsors and its an opportunity for students to gain fantastic skills."
The Business will end with a presentational and marketing event to be held on York campus on Saturday of Week 7. Last year York Vision entered a team to win the £500 to "save the paper" after they faced a financial crisis. In a dramatic finish they lost out in the final round. Team member Adam Thorn said: "Basically we were let down by poor decisions at the last minute. We put on an event in Vanbrugh and gave away free stuff but didn't pull it off. It was gutting."
Applications for The Business must be made at the York Entrepeneur's Website during Week 4.
Last year I bought a doughnut for three pounds... Sure this event is great to help you gain skills or whatever but why does it have to mean that people not involved have to lose out on money! Bit of a scam no?
Did someone force you to buy it? Or pretend that you were going to get a whole box or something like that? As far as i understand the whole point was that the teams set their prices at what they thought they would be able to sell the doughnuts for and it obviously worked...
doughnuts are a good idea...i dont think u can get them anywhere else on campus. very enterprising
