The Freedom Society host “Peace in the Middle-East” event

Is-pal
Open discussion needs to be fostered
Thursday, 3rd June 2010
On Tuesday, 1st June, the Freedom Society hosted a rare talk about peace in the Middle-East. Two experts from the Israel-based Reut Institute discussed the future of the peace process.

Eran Shayshon, a senior analyst of the national security team, and Calev Ben Dor from the political-security team at the Reut Institute help make the decisions to advance the peace process with the Palestinian leadership.

Calev Ben Dor, in particular, specialises in monitoring key local and global trends in order to identify potential strategic opportunities with specific focus on the political process with the Palestinians.

He gave a presentation on what was next in line for the proximity talks, providing a fascinating and thorough explanation and analysis of the particulars of the peace process so far. He then presented the Reut alternative peace model based on research before taking several challenging questions alongside Shayshon from the floor.

The event was well-attended despite the difficulty the Freedom Society mentioned they encountered in holding and advertising it.

The Reut Institute, established in 2004, is an innovative non-partisan, non-profit policy group designed to provide real-time and long-term strategic decision support to Israeli leaders and decision makers.

It was referred as one of Israel’s premier policy research centres by Tom Friedman.

Sorry, could you please elaborate on what some of the challenging questions were and how they were answered?

I really wanted to go but had other commitments!
