After attending many meetings on his own initiative over the past years, Goodricke’s Spirit of the Year 2010 winner Sean Ahlstrom officially took his place as Disabilities Officer in Goodricke’s JCRC.
Taking on the roles of Volunteering Reps are second-years Katie Whiteside and Mickey James. Both are looking forward to working with each other and to getting involved in the volunteering challenge.
Goodricke College seems set for a busy year in Volunteering as James expressed his desire for Goodrickers to “give volunteering a try on a small scale, and then hopefully onto bigger and better things”, while Whiteside plans to “encourage Goodricke students to take part in the volunteering projects that YUSU offers.”
Furthermore, in terms of charity, Megan Cross hopes to “make a positive impact and create a difference” as part of the college’s new RAG team.
The most contested position in this year’s by-elections was the position of Press and Publicity, with an initial number of 9 contestants for a 4-person position. Successful candidate Matthew Williams told the Yorker his plans for Goodricke this term; “I’d like to gather support towards creating an official Goodricke prospectus video … for next year’s Freshers.”
Fellow Press and Publicity Officer Paula Gallagher on the other hand, would like to get “information about events out further in advance” and also to try to “set up a text service for information on events”.
Goodricke JCRC Chair Nacho Hernando said, “I am really lucky with the JCRC members that have been elected in the elections and in the by-elections; they are a very promising group of people.”
According to Hernando, Goodrickers can expect two things this term: “More events and more services.” Hernando also assured Goodrickers that the battle for a cash point in Hes East is still going strong, and that plans for an extension of the No.55 York Pullman bus route to the supermarkets at Monks Cross are in its final stages.
Last but not least, Goodrickers are told to look out for a “great surprise in Week 8”.
