Tang Hall drug dealer stabbed

Simon Winterburn

Sunday, 6th February 2011
A Tang Hall Lane resident who stabbed a drug dealer in the leg was sentenced to prison this week for more than two years.

According to The Press, 31 year old cleaner Simon David Winterburn was on bail for drug possession when the stabbing of drug dealer Michael Purnell happened in Rawdon Avenue, Tang Hall in York in August 2010.

The incident reportedly occurred when Winterburn punched Purnell after finding him in his partner Donna Hudson’s kitchen. Winterburn had warned him previously not to supply his partner with drugs.

The situation escalated when Winterburn stabbed Purnell in the leg with a kitchen knife.

The knife went through the victims leg without hitting any major vein, nerve or bone. According to The Press, Judge Stephen Ashurst told Winterburn that it was very lucky that he managed to not inflict “any long term damage by that action”.

Winterburn pleaded guilty in court to the stabbing, as well as possession of small quantities of cannabis, diazepam and heroin, which he had been using personally.

He has now been jailed for two years and three months.
