Tim Ellis elected YUSU President

Tim Ellis
Getting cheeky with the new YUSU President-elect!
Friday, 4th March 2011
Former Goodricke Chair Tim Ellis was overcome by emotions as he thanked his friends, housemates and girlfriend for his close win to become YUSU President-elect.

Tonight's YUSU elections results were announced amidst beer, loud music and a whole bunch of wracked nerves in the Courtyard and ln028.

The night saw some spectacularly close wins, particularly the neck-to-neck race between Ellis and Lydia Blundell for YUSU President. The first two rounds saw Blundell in the lead, with Ellis making a dramatic comeback in the final round to take his place as YUSU President-elect.

The results came as a very pleasant surprise for Ellis, who commented ten minutes before the results,"I'm very nervous. Don't think it's going to go my way but no one knows till the results. I'm staying optimistic!"

Another close race was between Graeme Osborn and Alastair Logan for Academic Affairs Officer, with Osborn clinching the win by just 36 votes in the second round.

Many of the non-sabbatical positions had clear winners, with everyone managing to keep RON at bay for the uncontested races.

"1350 votes without a single poster - that's sustainable campaigning!!" Newly-elected Campaigns Officer Andreas Gabrielson told the Yorker with pride.

"However, although Jaime Riley emerged as the clear winner for YUM Chair with 917 votes, it is worth noting that RON came in second with 556 votes, well ahead of Jake Farrell, who only managed to gain 98 votes, suggesting potential unrest for the future of campus media."

Is this a joke?

The Yorker would like to extend our sincerest apologies to both YUM Chair candidates this year Jamie Riley and Jake Farrell for the incorrect report on votes. The reports have been acknowledged as incorrect and retracted accordingly.
