A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
The event took place in James’ College JCR from 10am until 2.30pm every day. ‘Keep your Cool’ guides, the work of Academic Officer Ben Humphrys, and happy individuals were on hand to help students take a break.
There was also a dance game on the Wii console, which Welfare Officer Laura Borisovaite says ‘allows people to get some positive energy bouncing about’. Refreshments were available, as well as free bottles of water, and on Friday a bouncy castle was brought in.
Campaigns aimed at helping students to get through the exam period more easily have been running for the past four years under different names.
Since the introduction of the new modular system, there will be more focus on exams taking place in week one of spring term and weeks five and six of summer term, which means that it will become easier to target students with events such as this.
‘Keep your Cool’ week has mainly been publicised through Facebook and around 600 revision guides have been handed out.
