Summer Ball prices drop from last year

summer ball
Saturday, 18th June 2011
This year’s Summer Ball tickets are on sale for less than last year, pleasing students who have in the past complained about the pricy event.

Summer Ball 2010 tickets set back students £42 each, and another £33 for the Graduation ticket, whilst this year’s tickets are priced at £35 and £70 respectfully.

Alternatives to the ball include Big D, which comes in cheaper at £25, and college balls at Alcuin and James, at the same price.

This price drop will come as a relief to students, who complained last year at the high cost of the event.

Last year’s Summer Ball caused uproar when headline act N-Dubz pulled out on the day, leaving students angry and disappointed at paying such high prices and then being let down.

This year’s entertainment includes The Subways, an alternative rock band who are regulars at the annual Reading and Leeds festivals, and Nero, who combine Drum and Bass and Dubstep and had a huge hit with ‘Blinded by the Lights’.

The solo artists lined up to perform are teen star Dionne Bromfield, who combines soul, jazz and R&B, and Darwin Deez, who will bring emotional and lively music to the evening.

The Summer Ball is to be held on Wednesday Week 9 at York Racecourse and is expected to have around 2,500 guests.

Entertainment will include five bars, a casino, fun-fair rides such as dodgems and white-knuckle rides, a coconut shy and other stalls, Nintendo Wiis, giant games and a dance area.

The ball also includes a champagne reception and three-course meal for those with Graduation tickets, a professional photographer and a paparazzi red carpet entrance, free transport, a chocolate fountain and candyfloss and the evening will end with survivors’ photos at 4am.

YUSU has labelled the Summer Ball “the biggest and best event of term” and “a perfect way to celebrate the end of your year in York.”

Tickets are still on sale at the YUSU shop.
