A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.

Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
Around ten students gave up their time on Wednesday to support their college, while also contributing to the community project.
They re-painted an area which included the home of WWI veterans, who wouldn’t otherwise have had the means to paint over the graffiti themselves, meaning that the volunteers really felt that the time they gave was worthwhile.
Each participant is worth one point, which then goes towards winning the College Cup. There are also prizes for the best volunteering project.
James JCRC volunteering rep Amber Fuller said that James has had "a really impressive turnout at all events this year, and that volunteers have had fun at all our events".
Although the main aim of the tasks is to help the community, she added that "winning the cup would be nice".
The Mega College Challenge takes place termly for all colleges, and involves a volunteering task for a day organised by their JCRC volunteering rep, as part of the many YUSU volunteering projects.
Previous college challenges have included gardening in retirement homes, cleaning beaches, litter picking and painting community centres.
