A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.

University of York RAG have produced a naked calendar, featuring six sports teams and four societies from around the university.
Despite the cold weather, groups as diverse as the American Football society, Fusion and the College Chairs have shed their clothes for a good cause.
The calendar, on sale at £6, aims to raise money for YUSU charities which include Refugee Action York, Martin House Hospice, War Child, Alzheimers Society, Teenage Cancer Trust and YUSU Volunteering.
This is the second naked calendar to go on sale on campus this term, after the Vanbrugh Football Team’s naked calendar raised £355 for charity. The Yorker understands however that this is the first such calendar produced by RAG.
Speaking exclusively to The Yorker Emily Duncan, RAG Committee Vice Chair for Colleges, said that many were keen to join in with the fundraiser: “A lot of teams and societies were very interested but some struggled to get the numbers and for others it was difficult to organise a time. In general we got a good response though!”
“I had a lot of fun co-ordinating the calendar, it was something different and creative,” Duncan added.
Duncan told the Yorker that they hoped to raise £1,300 from the calendar sales, adding “this is the first time RAG has done a naked calendar and I certainly hope we will do it again next year!”
Naked calendars hit the headlines earlier this year when the University of Portsmouth’s unedited pictures leaked onto the internet. Students campaigned for University of Portsmouth Students Union to ban the calendars, but ultimately no such ban was enforced.
Duncan however was quick to point out that YUSU had gone to great lengths to protect the volunteers, adding “the unedited photos have been deleted already.”
Calendars can be purchased by visiting in the coming days and will be for sale on Vanbrugh stalls Mon-Wed week 10, 12-2 and cost £6.
