Wilson's inspiration for the idea came when her friend's mother was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Casee said that her friend Yann "asked us all for donations to Cancer Research instead of gifts this Christmas when his mother was diagnosed with cancer.
"I wanted to find a way to raise more money than just one donation and so I wrote and recorded ‘Yuletide Bells’ and posted it on JustGiving for download in exchange for donations," she added.
Bronia Golanska, Yann’s mother, who has inspired Wilson’s fundraising campaign, was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, pleurisy and lung cancer in October and has since undergone surgery and chemotherapy.
Yann is very proud of his mother, who he describes as "a truly remarkable woman". She survived the Nazi purges of occupied Poland and went on to study in England and the US before settling in Paris and working as a Professor at La Sorbonne.
“A friend of ours said that if children still speak to their parents after they turn 30 then the parents have done a good job raising them. If that is true, Bronia has exceeded it,” says Yann.
“Not only do I still speak with her but all of my friends in France, England and the USA speak to her. Some offered to come from the USA to cook her a Christmas dinner when they heard that she was not well," he added.
News of Casee’s fundraising song filtered through to Bronia during her treatment. “It really cheered her up, raising her morale and most importantly bringing her hope,” Yann said.
Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer and more than one in three people will be affected in our lifetime. Wilson told The Yorker that "the money raised from this campaign gives hope to all those affected by cancer."
There is a Youtube video to support the campaign offering a preview of the song and some information about the cause, which can be viewed on the Just Giving page and below.
The Christmas song is available to download from the JustGiving page in exchange for a donation to Cancer Research UK.
