A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
RAG, which stands for Raising and Giving, celebrated last year's successes at an evening where they handed away the £34,403.20 raised in 2006/7.
Six of the 10 Beneficiaries of last year attended to receive their cheques and to speak regarding how the money would be spent. Each beneficiary will receive an even share of the funds.
RAG President, Kyle McInnes said: "It was great to see so many of the beneficiaries turn up on the night. They were so pleased to be receiving the money and I know they will put it to good use."

He continued to thank all those who helped raise the money: "I would like to thank all the staff of YUSU and the university who helped us raised this enormous amount. Also a big thankyou to all the students that attended our events such as the parade and woodstock and to the committee who have given up their time in order to put on these events."
The Teenage Cancer Trust said that their share of the money would be providing two new beds at a new cancer ward they are funding.
The money will be also going to fund local projects with York Nightstop, Student Action and North Yorkshire Aids Action.
The evening was also a chance for the new beneficiaries to explain how the money received this year would be spent.
RAG are run as an affiliate of YUSU and arrange events throughout the year to raise money for local, national and one international charity. Events include RAG week, Woodstock and RAG Raids, where students visit various cities around the UK to raise money for various charities.
