A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
The results represents a return to form for the reputable York media, which failed to bag a single award last year.
Heidi Blake, who won both student features writer and student diversity writer of the year, said: "This is a fantastic result for York, and should shore up our reputation as the leading university for student media in the UK. I'm very proud to be part of it."

Vision Editor Richard Byrne-Smith agreed. He said: "It just demonstrates how good York is compared to the rest of the country. As far as I'm concerned we just dominated the awards. The media here does so well without loads of funding and that's testament to how hard people at York work." York Vision won student newspaper of the year, an accolade they previously held three years running between 2002 and 2004.
The Yorker Videocast Editor Lucy Taylor, nominated for her work while Vision editor, won student reporter of the year. She said: "It was really brilliant finding out. I was completely thrilled, everyone was really happy. It was a really nice atmosphere. A lot of people from York went down and the people from Nouse, Vision and The Yorker were all together. I was completely overwhelmed last night."
Vision writer Richard Webb won student critic of the year. When asked about the awards ceremony and his own success he said: "It was a brilliant night. It was the proudest moment of my week, if not my life. I was also really proud for my mum, she was perhaps even more excited than I was. I was really pleased to win the award and I'm looking forward to donating my winnings to my landlady over the next few months."
