David Sharp, or Sharpy, said:
Why do you want to be Halifax president?
I believe that Halifax does not receive the kind of respect from the other colleges which it deserves. I want to help to promote Halifax by improving our events in JJ's, which are just as awesome as any club D or Planet V. I want to be Halifax President so that I can help the new freshers enjoy their 1st year as much as i enjoyed mine and try to maintain the high level of college spirit I believe we have.
What will you bring to the job?
I will bring charisma, passion and experience to the job. I am more than happy to listen to anybody in Halifax about any problems they may be having, any suggestions they have to improve Halifax or just a general chat. Doing this will help me to give the Halifax students’ view in any university meetings I may attend rather than just the views of the Halifax College Students Association.
If you could be in any other college, which one would it be?
Vanbrugh, because it is a complete contrast to Halifax and I think it would be interesting to see what life as a student in Vanbrugh would be like. It’s in the heart of campus and is also one of the smallest colleges whereas Halifax is off campus and is the largest.

What's the key issue for Halifax in the coming year and how will you approach it?
The Key issue for Halifax this year is the threat of JJ's closing down. I want to increase the popularity of our events, especially to those that live on campus. I feel I’ll be able to do that by using the good relationship I’ve built up as a JJ's employee to get better drinks offers for events. Being a JJ's employee gives me the advantage of seeing the problem from both perspectives, one as an employee and two as a Halifax Student to regularly uses JJ's.
Using my experience as a Bar Officer on the HCSA I'd like to team up with the future Bar Officers and Ents Officers to increase the number of minor events hosted in JJ's to increase its popularity on an average night without a late licence event going on. As well as this I wish to work with the Treasurer so see if it’s possible to lower the price of our events in order to increase the numbers of people attending.
What's the key issue for the University in the coming year and what is your position on that issue?
The university has got to address the situation of the college bars. It’s not only JJ's which is under threat but the likes of McQs and Langwith as well. The university need to do something to counteract the effect from the bars in town and in Heslington which are pulling many students away from the college bars. The university needs to take more risks. They have allowed JJ's to show the boxing next Saturday, however they have not allowed alcohol to be served. This could be a mistake as if the bar was open then the popularity of the event would be even bigger.
