1. Why are you running?
Sitting on the 2007 Langwith JCRC I have seen that with just a little time and effort, students at York really can make a difference. As Langwith Chair I would be able to represent my small but mighty college, and really make sure that one of the longest established colleges on campus is restored to something that the whole university can be proud of.
The threat of being “Ronned" certainly keeps candidates from taking advantage of being unopposed.
I am passionate about my college, about the student’s union, about the university as a whole, and believe that being Langwith Chair will give me the ability to genuinely make a difference to the view of Langwith on campus, and to the lives of each and every Langwith member.
2. Describe the best bit of langwith in 3 words! Character, tradition, and ambition.
Langwith has been repeatedly overlooked by the university
3. What do you see as the biggest problem in Langwith? According to the university, Langwith possesses ‘one of the few open-air chess boards in Britain and the only purpose-built Boules Terrain in a British university’. The fact that Langwith has no boules, nor a complete chess set, is a just small example of how Langwith has been repeatedly overlooked by the university. Langwith desperately needs investment.
Sandwiched between the recently developed Derwent and Vanbrugh bars, Langwith’s own bar struggles for attention and is neglected by the university’s Bars and Catering department. Langwith needs a Chair who is willing to take the college forward, to be proactive and confront these issues head on.
4. Do you see RON as a serious competitor? The RON vote is a powerful one, especially in an otherwise uncontested election. The threat of being “Ronned" certainly keeps candidates from taking advantage of being unopposed. I have run a full campaign for this election, and hope that this will be reflected in the results on Saturday.
The Yorker could not contact RON in time for publication.
Small but mighty! Go Vanbrugh!
This guy sounds like the most mature and sensible candidate for chair out of all the colleges I've read so far.
I can fit the rim of a pint glass in my mouth without crying.
