A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
The free event in Vanbrugh V/045 began on Saturday evening and ends at 6pm tonight. The organisers are asking for donations to help fund two sets at the next fringe festival in August.
Highlights so far include Have I got News for York, said to be "a show that infringes more on copyright than YouTube". The set included a seminal performance from campus legend Will Seaward, and will be repeated as the finale of the day.
The show verged off schedule overnight but is now back to its original timetable.
Director of The Shambles Amer Iqbal said: "I think it's going really well we started strongly and the only problem with going for 24 hours is that it's obviously not going to go well all the time."

Asked how the performers had maintained their energy levels, Iqbal added: "With any comedy show the adrenalin of performing keeps you going but we all had the big plan where the day before we all went to bed at six and got up at three so I'm hoping we'll be alright."
Comedy soc aims to raise about £7000 with a number of events before August in order to rent a venue for the fringe festival month and to cover travel costs.
