Double Take - the truth about tabloids

tabloids
Wednesday, 8th June 2011
Have you ever wondered why tabloids are a fraction of the price of broadsheets? Newspaper moguls have hit on an efficient way of cutting costs by allowing their reporters’ grubby little minds to run free, rather than doing any research or corroboration or…reporting

Our source reported that the most popular tabloids circulate a list amongst themselves of items they have not yet claimed cause/cure cancer, as well as names of z-list celebs who will go on a bender/get naked at the slightest prompt (only to be used on slow news days). It has also been revealed to us that Katie ‘Jordan’ Price is not a human being, but a highly sophisticated fabrication of a tabloid ‘journalist.’ I did have my suspicions.

Mysteries not yet solved are the phone-hacking scandal (real? Or publicity stunt?), the papers’ perennially high readership, and why Janet Street-Porter is considered a broadsheet journalist when she is in fact a hate-spewing oaf. Editorship of the Independent on Sunday does not a respectable writer make, Janet – you have to stop doing things like claiming depression is just a lie made up by loony lefties.

These enigmas aside, it remains to be seen whether these revelations will hit the sales hard, or whether our nation really does want to read almost exclusively about Cheryl Cole’s new dress and how much we miss the days of the Royal Wedding (it was better back then in April!)
