Welcome to York Student Cinema

Celluloid
Tuesday, 14th October 2008
The York Student Cinema is a student operated cinema showing a myriad of films from new blockbusters to the best in world cinema to unforgettable classics.

With cheap tickets and showings every Monday, Thursday and Friday and alternate Sunday films (starting the 26th), YSC offers students a great opportunity to have the cinema experience from campus. So be sure not to miss out.

This Wednesday, the 15th, YSC is getting even more generous. Starting at about 6pm there are 2, count them, 2 free films being shown. If you did not make it to the cinema to see either Get Smart or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, here are your second chances.

Get Smart

Maxwell Smart is an analyst at Control, a US intelligence agency. His dream of entering the field becomes reality when Control and its agents are compromised. Smart finally gets his chance to help save the world and battling the evil forces of Kaos but he soon realises that spy work is harder than it looks. With Steve Carell, smoothly playing Smart, is charismatic and funny and is followed closely b Anne Hathaway and Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson. Based on a 1960s TV show, Get Smart perfectly combines action and comedy bringing it into the modern era for all to enjoy.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indiana Jones is back after 19 years and he has still got it. In 1957 Jones now fights the Soviets with the Cold War threatening global security. Soviet officer Irina Spalko (played effortlessly by Cate Blanchett) needs Indiana to help her find the lost Crystal Skull of Akator (El Dorado). This, however, is no ordinary “X marks the spot” treasure hunt. Each new twist keeps the audience guessing while enjoying the all out action adventure. Harrison Ford is still as shrewd, witty, and genuinely affectionate as ever and great ensemble performances by Shia LeBeouf, John Hurt and Ray Winstone makes this a real treat for YSC newcomers.

York Student Cinema is in PX/001 in the Physics building and Get Smart will be starting at about 6pm.

A usual time for the schedule is 6.45 so come along to see some great films. If that is not enough for you, be sure to ask YSC members for advice on how to get involved with the cinema. Anyone and everyone are welcome.
