YSC Preview: Week 8

YSC Logo
Sunday, 13th June 2010

With many of us having exams towards the end of the summer term, the York Student Cinema are only showing two films for the next fortnight. However, even though there is a reduction in the quantity of films this does not mean there has been a reduction in the quality, with Week 8 being the strongest line-up of films so far this term.

  • The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – Monday, Week 8

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the multi-award-winning adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s modern classic, has been dubbed by many critics as the thriller of the year. Whilst any synopsis is sure to give away parts of the plot that are best left for first time viewers, it is safe to mention the centrepiece of the whole series: Lisbeth Salander. In bringing this character to the screen Noomi Rapace has given a tour de force performance - a performance that is unlikely to be equalled in the Hollywood adaptation that is on the cards.

  • Kick-Ass – Friday, Week 8

Stylish violence, swearing and comic book humour ahoy! That’s right, the sensation that is Kick-Ass is slamming onto the screens of P/X/001 this Friday. This story about a New York teenager (Aaron Johnson) who takes it upon himself to become a real life superhero and as such gets embroiled in the world of online vigilantism with the help of Hit-Girl. Whilst it features great performances from Aaron Johnson and Nicolas Cage, it is truly Chloe Moretz who is the real star of this film as the samurai sword-wielding, foul-mouthed Hit-Girl.

All films are shown in P/X/001 in the Physics building; doors open 6:45pm for a 7:30pm start. Tickets are only £3!
