YSC preview: week 4

YSC Logo
Sunday, 30th January 2011

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the York Student Cinema have had to cancel the Monday film Taxi Driver. However, this doesn’t affect the rest of the week or mean the Thursday and Friday films aren’t something to look forward to. Acclaimed comedy Easy A and animated super villain comedy Megamind will both be showing at YSC this week.

  • Easy A - Thursday, week 4

Hailed by many as the best teen comedy in years, this is the film that has made a star of Emma Stone (Zombieland, and soon Spider-Man). Stone has been much-acclaimed for her role as Olive, an innocent young teenager who helps a gay friend by pretending to have sex with him. However, after she similarly helps several others, she has been ostracised by the community and forced to embroider a red “A” on her clothes in reference to The Scarlet Letter. What results is a long struggle to redeem herself from her new and entirely unwarranted reputation with hilarious results.

  • Megamind - Friday, week 4

When super villain Megamind (Will Ferrell) actually manages to defeat his old nemesis Metroman (Brad Pitt) there is no purpose left to his life. He eventually decides to create a new superhero Titan (Jonah Hill) to fight, however, when he decides he also wants to be an arch criminal new problems arise. The result is a hugely entertaining tale of comic fun and chaos as devastation is caused in Metro City.
