Sunday, 6th February 2011

This week at the York Student Cinema, we have another great selection of critically-acclaimed films. From the dark world of Swedish crime thriller, The Girl who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, to comedy drama The Kids Are All Right... rounding off the week is Tony Scott’s action-packed runaway train thriller Unstoppable.

  • The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest - Monday, week 5

The concluding part of Stieg Larsson’s astonishing Millennium Trilogy sees Lisbeth (BAFTA Nominated Noomi Rapace) fighting to clear her name as a dark conspiracy unfolds around her. Following on from the truly exceptional The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire, this is an extremely tense dark thriller that makes a fitting conclusion to a great cinematic trilogy.

  • The Kids Are All Right - Thursday, week 5

Nominated at the Oscars for Best Picture and Best Actress (for Annette Benning), The Kids Are All Right is a brilliantly funny and genuinely moving comedy drama about modern families. When the children of lesbian couple Nic (Annette Benning) and Jules (Julianne Moore) decide to visit their genetic father they start a series of events that will test their strengths and loyalties. It’s a subject handled with great skill and charm by a superb cast and director to make a hugely intelligent, memorable and enjoyable film.

  • Unstoppable - Friday, week 5

Director Tony Scott (Top Gun) unleashes the critically acclaimed Unstoppable, a fast-paced and exciting action-packed white-knuckle ride starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. They must stop a runaway train carrying highly dangerous chemicals before it collides and annihilates an entire town, resulting in an extremely effective nail-biting race against time.
