Smartie Cookies

Smarties Cookies
Thursday, 12th March 2009
We all need an indulgent, sweet treat sometimes, and everyone knows that a good home-made cookie can't be beaten.

These only take about half an hour to make and bake, and so are perfect for the busy student. They are almost as yummy without the smarties for those who have given up chocolate! These are perfect to make as a treat for yourself or share them with your housemates on a lovely night in. In a nice little basket, they'd also make a perfect Mother's Day gift.

Makes 12-15 cookies.

  • 100g butter (tastes better, but margarine will do)
  • 100g muscavado sugar (again, this is best but castor sugar is OK too)
  • 1 tbsp golden syrup
  • 150g self raising flour
  • 3 tubes of smarties

1. Preheat the oven to gas mark 4/200°C.

2. Cream together the sugar and butter and stir in the golden syrup.

3. Mix in half of the flour, then add the smarties and rest of the flour and mix thoroughly.

4. Roll into 12-15 balls and space them out on a greased baking tray. Put in the oven and cook for about 10 minutes, or until they start to turn golden.

5. Leave to cool - they will harden as the do. Then hide them from your housemates, unless you want them to be eaten straight away!
