Netball lead the way in BUCS cup

Wednesday, 19th November 2008
Today hailed a switch to cup competition for most clubs and a chance to either continue, or recover, their early season form.

Netball triumph in BUCS cup

Men's football 1sts beat a poor Northumbria 2nds side 3 - 0 despite being far from their best. The win was made easier in the second half thanks to an opposition player throwing a punch at the returning O'Shea, resulting in a red card.

The Men's football 2nds suffered a dissapointing 5-0 defeat to Leeds Met Carnegie, further derailing their bright start to the season. The 3rds were thumped too, losing 6-0 to Northumbria 3rds, where despite a good start Northumbria dominated the game, leaving Tim Green in goal helpless.

The Men's Rugby 1sts game was canceled after the opposition pulled out, probably out of fear after last weeks drubbing of Huddersfield. The 2nds lost 34-0 to a very good leeds 2nds, who compete in the same league as York 1sts, and were simply outplayed by a stronger and more powerful team. This predicament was not helped by the referee not noticing continual minor infringements at the breakdown.

The success of the day was the Netball club who notched up two convincing victories to ensure passage to the next round. The firsts battered Sunderland into submission in the third quarter whilst trailing by 53 points. Such an emphatic win may mark the beginning of a good cup run for Olsen and co.
