Brown to go down before April 2010

Wednesday, 18th February 2009
Seano is back with a smile on his face after making a handsome profit on an over priced England cricket team, tipped up in this column last week. We leave the world of cricket this week but concentrate on the Premier league and US tour golf as well as a dip into the world of politics.

Nap: Lay Gordon Brown to exit as leader between April and June 2010 at 3.2

With the Tories regaining their twenty point poll lead from last summer, it appears the Brown bounce has been well and truly flattened. The bounce was created by his proaction, guided or misguided, but the chickens were going to come home to roost when the public realised that the policies were not working. As the economy plunges deeper into recession and deflation is ever threatening, Brown has no throws left of the dice. There are rumours he may abandon ship and join an economic regulatory body in April, but even so in the current political climate, I cannot see him lasting the year. With Alan Johnson posturing, I think Brown will be lobbed out if the Tories begin to near 50% in the polls. I certainly cannot see him lasting until April 2010, so 2.2/1 is far far too short. 2pt Lay

Seano's shouts: Wigan and Everton Win double at 13/2 (Skybet) and Buy Spurs' Premier League points at 46 (even money)

Southgate's struggling Middlesbrough side have lost three of their last five league games, and seem destined to fall into the relegation tug of war at the end of the season. Their opponents Wigan have recovered after the loss of frontman Heskey and midfield powerhouse Palacios and got two great draws away to Villa and at home to Liverpool. Southgate's men struggle to score goals and Wigan have one of the tightest defences in the Premiership so Bruce's men should prevail.

Everton have suprised everyone over the past couple of months, managing to win most of their games with six midfielders in place of any strikers. With loan signing Jo scoring a brace on debut, the Toffees may become even more deadly in the coming weeks. Their opposition have had a turbulent transfer window, with long serving keeper Shay Given leaving and their manager being rushed to hospital for a triple heart bypass. Injuries to their main strikers will make breaking down the ever solid Toffees a much harder task. Overall, 13/2 double for these two consistent sides is a very good price. 1pt win

My beloved Spurs have promised much but delivered little this season, but with talisman Keane back in the fold and Palacios winning tackles, I think the best is yet to come. To get 47 points Spurs need 22 from their final 13 games, needing at least six wins out of these fixtures. They have five very winnable home games against West Brom, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, West Ham and Man City and need to win one of their away games against Sunderland, Blackburn or Hull. They do face five of the top 6 in their other games but will only need one draw to win over our spread. 2pt Win

Horse: Autumn Red to win the 16:10 at Ludlow at 13/1

This brute of a horse is an up and coming talent having posted several placed finishes in top grade races in recent years. Trainer Paul Webber thinks 'Dave' is in great nick and should run close at Ludlow today, after a good chance at Newbury was spurned by the weather a couple of weeks ago. 1pt win

Outsider: Mike Weir to win the Northern Trust at 17.5

After a good showing last week at Pebble Beach, the Canadian will look to do better on a course he has good memories on. Victories at Riveria in 2003 and 2004 show his pedigree here, and at a time where the big guns are lacking their normal firepower Weir looks a promising shout. 1pt Win

I'm sure Spurs will be fine this season, especially now that with have Keano back. Top half of the table maybe? (in my dreams!) - but we can get some silverware if we manage to prize the Carling cup away from Ferguson. Just reaffirmimg my belief that we are essentially a cup team!

Also as a Labour party supporter it's not looking good for Brown!
