College Cup Predictions

Snedlew
Buff men, buff predictors?
Tuesday, 26th May 2009
The Yorker begins its weekly predictions column with the high and mighty of York football. Giving their Nastradamus like thoughts are Goodricke seconds manager, Michael Sneddon, tournament organiser, Adam Lewis, university first team captain, Matt Witherwick, former Alcuin supremo, Myles Preston and outgoing UYFC President, Shaun Evans. Just thank your lucky stars I haven't brought Mark Lawrenson in to do this.

Michael Sneddon -

Monday

Alcuin 1sts 3-1 Vanbrugh 2nds

Wentworth 2nds 1-2 Goodricke 3rds

Vanbrugh 1sts 3-1 Goodricke 2nds

Langwith 2nds 1-2 Halifax 3rds

Tuesday

Halifax 1sts 2-0 James 2nds

Derwent 2nds 3-1 Vanbrugh 3rds

Thursday

Goodricke 1sts 4-0 Halifax 2nds

Alcuin 2nds 2-0 Derwent 3rds

After seeing how good Derwent were first hand, I can't look beyond them as this years winners. To meet them in the final is a toss up between Alcuin and Goodricke (firsts or seconds!!). The Plate before yesterday had Goodricke seconds name all over it, now Vanbrugh firsts look a shoe in.

Adam Lewis -

Monday

Alcuin 1sts 3-0 Vanbrugh 2nds

Wentworth 2nds 3-0 Goodricke 3rds

Vanbrugh 1sts 2-0 Goodricke 2nds

Langwith 2nds 1-0 Halifax 3rds

Tuesday

Halifax 1sts 4-0 James 2nds

Derwent 2nds 2-1 Vanbrugh 3rds

Thursday

Goodricke 1sts 3-0 Halifax 2nds

Alcuin 2nds 4-0 Derwent 3rds

I'm predicting a Goodricke v Derwent final with the Goodricke boys retaining their trophy. Vanbrugh firsts for the plate.

Matt Witherwick -

Monday

Alcuin 1sts 4-1 Vanbrugh 2nds

Wentworth 2nds 1-3 Goodricke 3rds

Vanbrugh 1sts 4-0 Goodricke 2nds

Langwith 2nds 2-2 Halifax 3rds

Tuesday

Halifax 1sts 3-0 James 2nds

Derwent 2nds 1-0 Vanbrugh 3rds

Thursday

Goodricke 1sts 3-0 Halifax 2nds

Alcuin 2nds 2-0 Derwent 3rds

I'll go for a Vanbrugh - Derwent final, 2-0 to Vanbrugh and I'll go for James 1st's to win the plate. *Predicted before yesterday's results*

Myles Preston -

After being last year's dominant side in College football, Alcuin have been disappointed not to win either college league this year. Expect them to be a force in this tournament, with Delaney and Cox bagging goals on their way to a 2-0 victory over a dogged Chris Schultz inspired Vanbrugh 2nds side. Vanbrugh 1sts should beat Goodricke 2nds comfortably. One Vanbrugh source commented to me last week that he thought that they had been 'poor' in their first game, so expect them to put in a much improved performance this time around.

Halifax 1sts should beat James 2nds with relative ease. Always dark horses, expect Joe Brennan to show why he has long been one of the most influential players at college and university level for several years now. Even if he doesnt play, they have more than enough quality to be a force in this competition. Derwent 2nds will beat Vanbrugh 3rds providing they can get some service to 4 million pound player James Grey, who has not been as well accommodated in Derwent football as a player of his talent should have been.

Goodricke 1sts will beat Halifax 2nds without conceding, and this will see Adlou and their skipper notch up some more fantasy football points. Alcuin 2nds will beat Derwent 3rds 5-0, with Damian Pickard notching all five goals thanks to him shaking off a dead leg that has plagued him for a little while.

Overall, I cant look past Alcuin, Derwent, and Goodricke as the favorites for this tournament, with key players such as Delaney, Gardner, and O'Shea providing the quality for all three of these teams to go far in the tournament.

Shaun Evans -

Monday

Alcuin 1sts 4 v Vanbrugh 2nds 0

Wentworth 2nds 2 v Goodricke 3rds 3

Vanbrugh 1sts 3 v Goodricke 2nds 0

Langwith 2nds 1 v Halifax 3rds 2

Tuesday

Halifax 1sts 3 v James 2nds 0

Derwent 2nds 3 v Vanbrugh 3rds 0

Thursday

Goodricke 1sts 4 v Halifax 2nds 1

Alcuin 2nds 2 v Derwent 3rds 2

I’d fancy Goodricke to be there-or-thereabouts towards the end – Vanburgh have a solid set-up and Derwent have an abundance of class throughout but I reckon the much underestimated Halifax could quietly sneak into the final – especially if Brennan and McKellow were to return to duty. If the draw permits it – a Goodricke - Halifax final with a marginal Halifax victory.

Spot on for the goodricke 1sts games chaps. And Halifax were without Omarov, Fortnam, Atkins and Kent who have all played Uni thirds.

I'm not sure about your point there. Didn't all the predictors get it right that Goodricke would win?

Hardly the heralded thrashing though. and halifax's left midfielder was in goal as well.
