Goodricke Sprint to Sports Day Success

Women Track
Monday, 18th June 2007
Goodricke were always confident of a strong performance at Sports Day this year, especially with athletes of the calibre of Ruth Laybourn leading from the front.

William Goldring, a Goodricke Sports Rep, said, "She was fantastic". Laybourn claimed four events in total, including the 100m, 200m and the long jump. Goldring added, "The whole event was a great success, we were always confident this would be the case."

"There are so many contributions to note, Pieter Cordwell won the men's 100m, where we also took 4th. Rob Mcguiness won us the shot put, Dan Whitlam came 2nd in long jump. We were also pleased with the team events, especially the victorious women's 4x100m and tug-of-war teams."

The Goodricke sports reps - William Goldring, Jack Kennedy, Katie Cowper-Johnson, Owen Grafham and George Taylor - were keen to point towards what they felt was a key factor in their success, "We were delighted with the level of support we had, which we felt was far beyond any other college. This just goes to show how strong Goodricke college spirit is. We are confident of retaining our title."

The Goodricke sports reps are in high spirits, and their optimism seems well founded after this success. They finished by adding, "...perhaps the only disappointment is that our domination is only reflected by a mere two point gain on Halifax!"
