Netball 2nds batter visiting Teessiders

University of York 2nds 47 - 11 University of Teesside 2nds

Following on from the frustration of being knocked out of the BUCS cup and the disappointment of losing their first league match by two goals, York seconds were ready for a victory, which came in style in their match against Teesside seconds.

York wrong-footed Teesside on numerous occasions, which gave confidence to the new team, who had only developed their set plays at the previous training session. The movement of the ball from the centre to the circle was almost seamless, and once there the interplay of shooters Abigail Weighill and captain Sophia Sahin was well-coordinated, and their shots on target.

There was never a moment when York were not in complete control of the match, despite the major blow they suffered as their talented goal defence Cleo Jones was injured and had to come off at half time. York reshuffled, and even though several players were out of position, York maintained a clean sheet for a considerable period, which is a great credit to the defence.

The final score of 47 - 11 reflects York's persistence as they never dropped their attacking mentality, picking off all the loose balls and making many interceptions. Captain and Player of the Match Sophia Sahin was thrilled with the performance: “Everyone put in 100% and it really paid off, bring on St John next week!”

Teamsheet: Sophia Sahin (c), Sami Briggs, Abi Weighill, Jo Brayshaw, Cleo Jones, Laura Longworth, Rosie Mughal, Lauren Furniss, Ellie McAlpine.
