What's in a name?

Football
Monday, 15th March 2010
Whilst listening to the Guardian’s excellent football weekly extra podcast on Thursday I was amused by one listener’s suggestions of comical names for the sons of footballers. Examples such as Bacary Sagna naming his son Les, Matthew Upson calling his Chin and Emmanuel Eboue bestowing Peak to his heir got my creative juices flowing.

So here I my best efforts at humorous first names for footballers:

Emiliano Insua – Penin

Jermaine Defoe – Defriendor

Neil Kilkenny – They (South Park reference)

Samuel Eto’o – Vienn

Dirk Kuyt – Flya

Martin Skyrtal – Mini

Ricardo Gardner – Uphill

Miroslav Stoch – Laughing

Ricardo Fuller – Halfemptyorhalf

As you can guess I began to struggle after the first few… but please Yorker readers if you can think of anymore feel free to put them forward in the comments and I will update the list with the good ones!
