After their win against bitter rivals Liverpool, thanks to controversial penalty and red card decisions, Premier League leaders Manchester United face League One Southampton, who were impressive in their surprise 2-0 victory over Blackpool in the previous round.
Arsenal also benefited from a controversial penalty to earn a replay against Leeds United. The winning team will take on Huddersfield at home.
Chelsea stunned struggling Ipswich 7-0 and travel to Goodison Park next the next round. Everton won 5-1 against Championship side Scunthorpe so on paper this all-Premier-League clash promises goals galore.
Other top-flight head-to-head matches see Bolton take on Wigan, Fulham host Tottenham and Blackburn Rovers travel to Aston Villa.
As ever, the FA Cup kept fans on the edge of their seats with numerous cup-sets: Crawley Town, the only remaining non-league side, beat Championship side Derby County 2-1 to secure their place in the fourth round against Torquay.
League Two Stevenage’s victory over Premiership side Newcastle 3-1 earned them a home tie against Reading while League One side Notts County shocked Sunderland at the Stadium of Light with a 2-1 win, setting up a tie against the winners of the Leicester-Manchester City replay. City battled back after Leicester took an early lead but Joe Hart’s fumbled catch allowed an equaliser.
Burton, in League Two, also gained a shock result as they won 2-1 against Middlesbrough, who are two leagues above, and they now face another Championship side, Burnley, in the next round.
