Doctor Who: Comic Relief
Saturday, 5th March 2011
  • News

- Details of this year’s Doctor Who special for Comic Relief have been released. The two four-minute mini episodes, in a similar style to Children in Need specials ‘Born Again’ and ‘Time Crash’, will be set on the TARDIS set and star series regulars Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. The two episodes, one of which will contain two versions of Amy Pond, will air during Comic Relief: Funny for Money on 18th March.

- Hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother has been renewed for two more seasons. The sixth season is currently showing on E4.

- Following strong suggestions from star Rupert Penry-Jones, a third series of ITV crime drama Whitechapel has been confirmed. The six episodes will film this spring to air sometime next year.

- The six finalists for BBC1’s Let’s Dance for Comic Relief have now been chosen. Previous semi-final winners Russell Kane, Katie Price, Noel Fielding and James Thorton and Charlie Baker were joined this evening by Adrian Edmonson and an 80s supergroup containing Chesney Hawkes, Toyah Wilcox, Limahl and Clare Grogan. The final will air next Saturday at 7.10pm.

- Ron Moore’s pilot 17th Precinct is beginning to look like some sort of huge Battlestar Galactica reunion. Talented actors and ex-BSG stars James Callis, Jamie Bamber and Tricia Helfer are now all signed on to star in the project, which will also star Stockard Channing.

- Following three series on BBC1 at 8.30pm, QI will move back to its traditional 10pm slot on BBC2 for the next series, which will centre around the letter "I".

- Ex-Lost star Jorge Garcia will be making a cameo in an episode of Fringe later this season. Furthermore, Josh Holloway has been cast for a guest role in the finale of the second season of Community.

South Riding

- Andrew Davies’ Yorkshire-set drama South Riding concludes on Sunday at 9pm on BBC1 – will Sarah’s new life come crashing down around her following her disastrous encounter in Manchester?

- The thinking woman’s crumpet, Professor Brian Cox, brings the Wonders of the Universe to our screens this Sunday at 9pm on BBC2 as he looks at mysteries of the cosmos.

- A new series of Law & Order: UK begins on Monday at 9pm on ITV1. The series follows the pattern of the American original: Bradley Walsh and Jamie Bamber star as police officers investigating a crime, which then passes on to Ben Daniels and Freema Agyeman as the lawyers prosecuting the criminal.

- The third season of Castle begins on Wednesday at 9pm on Alibi.

- ITV1’s latest Thursday 9pm drama is Monroe, which stars James Nesbitt as a maverick neurosurgeon who struggles to balance his home and work life. From acclaimed writer Peter Bowker and directed by the man who helmed the two best episodes of Sherlock, Paul McGuigan, this should hopefully be more than just a British House.

- Competitive cheerleading drama Hellcats (which stars Aly Michalka and Ashley Tisdale) begins on MTV at 9pm on Thursday.
