  • News

- The network upfronts continued this week with Mike & Molly, Hawaii Five-0, Nikita, One Tree Hill and Blue Bloods all earning renewals for next season.

- There have, of course, been further cancellations. Amongst the ending shows are $#*! My Dad Says, The Defenders and Hellcats.

- With that, there have been a number of new series picked up to begin next season; Ringer will see Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to television, The Secret Circle is a witchy-based show from The Vampire Diaries creator Kevin Williamson, Hart of Dixie focusses on Rachel Bilson as a new doctor working in a small town, Person of Interest is a crime procedural from J. J. Abrams and Jonah Nolan and Unforgettable is about an NYPD detective who remembers everything that she sees.

- A new ITV series from the creators of Life on Mars has begun filming in York. Eternal Law will star Samuel West (Cambridge Spies) and Ukweli Roach (Streetdance 3D) will star as Zak and Tom, two angels working as lawyers in York who have been sent to earth to try and understand the human condition. Tobias Menzies (Rome), Hattie Morahan (Sense and Sensibility) and Orla Brady (Mistresses) will co-star.

- Shipwrecked, Channel 4’s version of Survivor, will return later this year for a fifteen-episode eighth series.

- Lisa Edelstein has announced that she won’t be appearing in House’s eighth season. In a statement to Deadline, the actress said, "After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead."

- ITV1’s Vera has been commissioned for a second run of four episodes. The first series of the show, which stars Brenda Blethyn as a detective, concludes this Sunday at 8pm on ITV1.

- Three more actors have been added to the cast of Torchwood: Miracle Day, which is to air in the UK this summer. Nana Visitor, Mare Winningham and Frances Fisher all join regular cast John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Kai Owen, alongside previously announced new cast members Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman and Lauren Ambrose.

  • Highlights

- New series Funny or Die Presents begins on Sky Atlantic at 10pm on Monday.

- As the Duke of Edinburgh approaches his 90th birthday in June, on Tuesday at 8pm on ITV1 Alan Titchmarsh will present Prince Philip at 90, a profile of the longest serving royal consort in British history.

- A new episode of Midsommer Murders airs on Wednesday at 8pm on ITV1.

- Season 10 of American Idol is coming to its conclusion, on Thursday (8pm, ITV2) the final two of Scotty McCreary and Lauren Alaina will perform and on Friday (9pm, ITV2), the winner will be announced.

- The second season of the recently cancelled Human Target begins on Thursday at 9pm on Syfy.

- Season 7 of House will conclude this Thursday at 10pm on Sky1.
