  • News

- Starz have released a trailer for the upcoming Torchwood: Miracle Day, which shows our first substantial look at new cast members Mekhi Phifer and Bill Pullman. See it on Digitalspy here.

- US cable network Showtime have opted to cancel United States of Tara (which does not currently air in the UK) and renew Nurse Jackie (which can be found on BBC4).

- BBC3 have commissioned two new comedy pilots. IED, from Miranda writers James Carey and Richard Hurst, will focus on members of a British bomb disposal unit, while Tom Bidwell has written Eggbox, which will look at life on a teenage cancer ward. Bidwell’s experiences of having cancer as a teenager have already informed his short film Wish 143, which was Oscar nominated this year.

- Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica) is joining the sixth season of Dexter as "a brilliant, charismatic professor of religious studies". The fifth season of the drama will air on FX this summer.

- Sad news for fans of Strictly Come Dancing spin-off It Takes Two: the programme’s much-loved host, Claudia Winkleman, will not be presenting this series as she is due to have a baby in the summer.

- Chris Meloni is leaving Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The actor has starred on the show since it began in 1999.

- Following her win at last Sunday’s BAFTA TV Awards, Jo Brand has confirmed that Getting On will be returning for a third series, despite previous reports to the contrary, while fellow winner Rev is expected to return in September.

  • Highlights

- Following the success of Vera, a new ITV1 crime drama begins this Sunday at 9pm. Scott & Bailey stars Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp as a pair of detectives with complicated personal lives. Now, where have we heard that before?

- The live semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent air every weekday this week at 7.30pm on ITV1, with a results show every evening at 9.30pm, and an episode of Coronation Street in between. Simon Cowell returns to the judging panel as 40 acts fight for a place in next Saturday’s final.

Grey's Anatomy

- Jack Dee’s sitcom Lead Balloon returns for a new series on Tuesday at 10pm on BBC2.

- The final episode of Grey's Anatomy Season 7 airs on Wednesday at 10pm on Sky Living.

- Andrew Marr’s Megacities, in which the presenter looks at the phenomenon of mass migration to cities such as Shanghai, begins on BBC1 at 8pm on Thursday.

- The third and final season of the recently cancelled Lie to Me continues on Thursday at 10pm on Sky1.

- 70s teen sensation David Essex makes his debut in Eastenders during this Friday’s episode, which airs on BBC1 at 8pm.

- The finale of Modern Family’s second season airs on Friday at 8.30pm on Sky1
