The Week in TV

Well, we battled through the wilderness of last week’s TV schedules, wrestling the beast that is the The X Factor, braving the fire-breathing dragon Desperate Scousewives, and, er, having a minor scuffle with some handbag-sized pigs in Super Tiny Animals. After all that excitement, what does this week have in store for us?

1) Black Mirror – Sunday. Channel 4. 9pm. Insert Charlie Brooker love here.

2) At last we’re nearing the end, with The X Factor semi-final being shown tonight at 8pm. And with the news that the result will go solely on public vote, can we really see anyone else leaving but Misha?

3) Without You (Thursday 9pm ITV1) – Intriguing new drama starring Anna Friel and Marc Warren. What more could you want?

4) The new series Come Date With Me airs Monday, 5pm on Channel 4. Yes, it’s exactly what you think it is. The uber awesome Dave Lamb still provides the narration though, so it’s probably worth watching just for that.

5) You know it’s a bad week for TV when you recommend a soap, but Cain Dingle is set to be viciously attacked in Emmerdale this week! But who will do it? Mardy Moira? Angry Amy? Literally nobody can be ruled out; I wouldn’t put it past Evangelical Edna to be honest…

Check back later in the week for reviews of Black Mirror and Come Date With Me...

Emma Bunton

-Jeremy Clarkson’s comments about the public sector strikes on The One Show have led to over 21,000 complaints – he has now apologised.

- Jason Gardiner and Emma Bunton have confirmed via Twitter (how else?) that they’re leaving Dancing on Ice. Cue frantic debates about replacements.

- Speaking of which, speculation is rife as to the new Britain’s Got Talent judging panel. Dannii Minogue? David Walliams? Barbara Windsor? Some other woman off EastEnders? The suspense!

- BBC3 have been busy this week, recommissioning the marvellous Him and Her for a third series, and Pramface for a second. Confused? The first series hasn’t been on yet. Hmm.

- The hip, young channel also announced a new comedy starring Jack Whitehall, Bad Education, which will see him leave his Fresh Meat student days behind and play a teacher. Unsurprisingly, he’s a bad teacher.

- Downton Abbey may have seen off competition from Spooks earlier this year as if it was nothing more than a mole in the grounds, but it’s set to face much fiercer competition from EastEnders as they go head-to-head on Christmas Day. Can Downton break ITV’s Christmas curse and defeat the BBC’s cockney cavalry?

- Steven Moffat has tweeted that there are no plans for a Hollywood Doctor Who and that any potential film would star the current TV Doctor anyway. Awwh. We were having so much fun imagining our Hollywood Doctors
