Billed as a “night of mayhem”, under fire bar crawl Carnage returned to York’s bars on Sunday night for the first time this year. Hundreds of students from both of York’s universities made it out to hit a route of Varsity, Vodka Revolutions, Orgasmic, Parish and Tru.

The University of York is attracting heavy criticism from civil liberties campaigners by helping to develop a controversial five-year EU funded research programme called Project Indect, which will develop technology to monitor the public for signs of "abnormal behaviour".

Wednesday saw the regular YUSU Union General Meeting (UGM) where a number of issues were brought up in motions, the most notable of which called for YUSU to campaign for 24 hour portering.

Portering campaign continues

YUSU’s ‘Save Our Porters’ campaign provided a noticeable campus presence on Wednesday night as campaigners set up stalls in Derwent, Langwith and Vanbrugh. This event follows Monday night’s furniture-based demonstration of a similar vein in Derwent Bar by some unidentified students.

James Provost Neil Lunt and James JCRC sports reps have organized a friendly sporting event this weekend. Around 70 Durham students from Collingwood College will be spending the weekend in York playing James College teams in several sports including football, netball rugby and squash.
