A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.

Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
Tim Green, one of James’ sports reps said “the aims of the weekend are to foster a relationship between the two colleges, get a friendly link going inter-uni through a friendly sporting competition.” This is part of a greater effort to promote James College as the sporty college on campus and also to maintain James’ new bar McQ’s which has been making huge efforts to keep students in campus bars this term.
Lunt hopes that this weekend will be “something different for the James College calendar and it may attract some Freshers that want to play sport.” Since both James and Collingwood colleges are approximately the same size, Lunt suggested the event might become a mini-roses.
Sports reps have organized catering for students, paid for by the JCRC and Durham students will be sleeping in the James Hall. A cup will be presented to the winning college with the inscription Ubi concordia ibi victoria (meaning where there is unity there is victory) at the awards ceremony on Saturday night.
Lunt, a former student in Collingwood College, has strong links with its principal, Prof Ed Corrigan who for 10 years was head of Department of Mathematics at York until 2007. Lunt hopes this event will become a James college tradition.
