Monday:
After footage was leaked onto, and then quickly removed from YouTube of a third person view for the hotly anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, developers Infinity Ward confirmed that the third person view was indeed real and part of a new multiplayer mode that will be available in the final version of the game when released next week.
Tuesday:
Sony confirmed that the release date of the God of War Collection will be November 17th. The collection will not only feature high definition versions of both the original God of War and the sequel God of War II, released on the PlayStation 2 in 2005 and 2007 respectively, but also a special code allowing buyers to download the demo for God of War III from the PlayStation Network months before the full game is released in March.
Wednesday:
The PlayStation 2 turned nine in America. With over 10,000 games available, 500 million games sold and 140 million consoles sold, it seems Sony's once dominant console shows no sign of slowing down and will make it to Sony's predicted 10 year life span.
Thursday:
Nintendo's earnings report showed that the gaming giant's profits are falling. For the six months between April and September 2009, the company saw its profits decrease by 52%. In comparison with 2008, Nintendo's overall revenues have fallen by 34.5% in total.
Friday:
President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, claimed that the Wii has stalled due to the inability to keep constantly releasing games of high demand. Iwata claims that Nintendo remain optimistic and are preparing for next year and also considering plans for 2011.
Also last week, to coincide with the Eurogamer Expo in London, the results of the Golden Joystick Awards 2009 were announced. These are the world’s biggest annual gaming awards, voted for by the gamers themselves, with over 1.2 million votes this year. The winners are as follows:
