For those image-loving players, the DLC includes a few new customizable options in the form of two new characters and five new masks. For most players the appeal will come from the level cap being raised from 40 to 50, and the inclusion of 20 new ‘Trials’ (essentially in-game achievements which give you Adam rewards upon completion).
With the level cap, and some of the other content only becoming available to players who pass level 40, it is clear this add-on is aimed at hardcore players. This is especially true as the post-level 40 rewards aren’t exactly comprehensive, meaning some of the new masks are essentially items for highly-ranked players to show off.
It would have been nice to see a few new weapons and maybe some new plasmids, but 2K has made it clear more DLC is in the pipeline, so my hopes are still high for a bigger/better add-on release in the near future. For a first add-on, and admittedly a very cheap one at that, Sinclair Solutions is a neat little pack for those willing to part with the points, even if it is only to unlock the content rather than download it.
Ultimately, Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack offers a slightly expanded multiplayer experience, but lacks any truly new elements to entice players. That said, for a mere 400 Microsoft points, it certainly should appeal to those players who feel they want that little bit extra out of Rapture. If you’re an avid online BioShock 2 player, perhaps already at level 40, then by all means download this simple little pack and enjoy advancing the extra 10 levels, and the new weapon upgrade slot/customizable items. However, if you aren’t currently spending most of your online time with BioShock 2, this may not be a worthwhile purchase.
