L.A Noire, the explatory 'sandbox' game developed by Rockstar, behind the mind-boggingly successful Grand Theft Auto series and Red Dead Redemption, has been given a release date, May 17th. The game is set in Los Angeles of the 1940s, and wears its influences heavily on its sleeve. As a private detective, your task will be to solve crimes and deal with Hollywood stars, femme fatales. Raymond Carver would approve.
PSP2 confirmed Sony have officially announced the release of the PSP2, which is codenamed NGP, or "Next-generation Portable". It's set for release (in Japan) at least, by the end of 2011. Sony have already said they expect the graphics to rival the Playstation 3. The previous PSP had a host of brilliant games, such as God of War: Chains of Olympus, but ultimately could not cope with the appeal of the Nintendo DS. New features such as a card to store games, and a touch screen AND a touch pad at the bottom, means that it might offer a more meatier opposition. Games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, and Uncharted are all rumoured or confirmed as games.
Facebook Game Like No Other The Dragon Age series is taking a radical turn on Facebook. At the moment, most games on Facebook, such as Bejewelled Blitz are free, handy time wasters. Dragon Age aims for a much more multi-faceted, rewarding experience. However, as anyone cynical might guess, it's not going to be offered for free. Certain missions will be free, but more than a certain amount and you will have to pay. Want that extra special shiny gizmo? You'll have to pay for it. This seems a way of breaking internet gamers, who are notoriously stingy, into parting with their hard-earned cash.
Heavy Rain Movie? Anyone who has played the game Heavy Rain would describe it primarily as 'cinematic'. Far more plot-driven than the majority of games, it unravelled a (very brutal) world in a variety of scenes, one of the most wince-worthy being having to cut off one of your own fingers (the character in the game, not your own; that would be some sacrifice!). Rumour has it that David Malich has been hired to write for the film. Malich was behind the stupendous Deadwood, so hopefully this game will not follow in the footsteps of Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Bros, and Tomb Raider
I literally can't wait for L.A. Noire. It's Rockstar, so you know it's going to be incredible.
