3DS Released
At The Yorker we’ve been talking about the 3DS more than practically anything else. Finally it’s out in Japan, accompanied with the predictable queuing round the block to get their mitts on the most exclusive piece of software available. Apparently there were no stocking issues, which is unlikely to be the case in Europe and North America, as only limited amount have been confirmed for release. What is being commented on the most is the Street Pass social function, allowing players to duel anyone in games like Ridge Racer if they are nearby. The only thing that could be an issues is the lack of third party software – Nintendo have always very much had its jewels developed in-house, rather than relying on other games developers like Sony and Microsoft do. It’s out here in Europe next month and The Yorker will be covering.
Modern Warfare 3 on the way
Another year, another Call of Duty game. It’s become as regular as the FIFA series. A website called www.findmakarov.com has some interesting footage on it. Makarov is the sinister Russian villain through much of Modern Warfare 2. The footage culminates with a countdown clock that should finish at 7am on March 2nd, presumably at which point more information will be released. Incidentally the next iPad should be announced that date at an Apple conference. Jackpot.
Cartoon Network Brawl?
If you haven’t played Super Smash Bros Brawl or any other games in the franchise, please go do so now with some mates and a bumper pack of Doritos and dip. With friends, it can be a ridiculously addictive beat ‘em up. Well Cartoon Network have decided to muscle in on the action with their own version. You control 18 characters, with another 19 helping or partly playable. In my childhood where Cartoon Network was more or less a daily ritual this will be a blast down memory nostalgia lane. Just as long as there is tons of Ed, Edd 'n’ Eddy. And Dexter and Courage the Cowardly Dog. None of the newer stuff though.
Mortal Kombat banned in Australia
Australia has a much more draconian view of games than many other parts of the world, and it’s no surprise that they’ve decided to ban Mortal Kombat, the hilariously over-the top beat ‘em up game that’s always fun to yell ‘Finish him’ along with. The reason is that the game is classified outside Australia’s highest warning level, 15+. There is no 18 rated level in Australia, despite a lot of people pointing out this obvious flaw. This has led over the years to many games being purged or questionable material or being banned entirely. The fact that Mortal Kombat has suffered the same fate can hardly be considered a surprise.
Aren't we forgetting something? http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/02/23/battlefield-3-footage/ Battlefield 3 footage was released... it also looks like you're getting your third-game-in-a-military-series' mixed up, the MW3 site was a hoax (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/02/25/its-modern-warfare-3-then/).
