PSN Back Online...Just - Sony's PlayStation network has had a shaky start after last week's reactivation. While the service is now broadly available, as well as requiring an update which forces you to change your password, the PlayStation Store is not due to go back online until Tuesday May 24th. In the wake of this, the only hugely noteable event has been Warner Bros. announcement that those playing second-hand copies of Mortal Kombat 9 will be able to play online for free until the 24th, without having to buy the $10 pass usually required. Sony have also this week announced their compensation packages, which for PS3 users includes two of the following five games:
And for PSP users:
All this, as well as 30 free days of PSN Plus and a year's free ID theft protection!
inFamous 2 is just around the corner - The first inFamous was incredible, and fans have been readily anticipating Sucker Punch's sequel for the last year. And now there's finally a release date - June 10th. The game boasts an entirely new city, multiplayer modes, user-generated missions, and Cole gets the ability to use fire and ince powers beyond his usual electrical abilities.
Leicester MP Keith Vaz Proposes Game Sales Control Bill - In UK political game news, noteable gaming opponent Keith Vaz has tabled an Early Day Motion signed by eleven other MPs in order to further legislate against the sale of violent video games to minors, as well as to encourage parents to limit the time their children play on video games for. The cross-party EDM includes 11 signatures, primarily from Labour, but also from the Lib Dems, the Conservatives and the DUP. The contentious portion of the legislation is not so much that Vaz is preventing children from playing violent games, something no-one wants to endorse, but that it claims video games are addictive. Studies have not yet proven or disproven this idea, so claiming as such is a little problematic. Furthermore, such accusations hinder mainstream acceptance of video games as a modern medium.
You're a minifig, Harry! - The Lego series, while very similar to each other, are great co-op games - designed for even those who don't play games often to have a fun time with it. With Lego Pirates of the Caribbean barely released, Warner Bros. Interactive have announced Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7. It's a safe bet, considering how well Years 1-4 sold. Year 5-7 will be released on all modern formats, with even an announcement for the NGP!
