GTA V Trailer Looks Amazing Rockstar unveiled their trailer to the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V this Wednesday, showing that, as was rumoured, the game will feature a return to Los Santos, the series’ take on Los Angeles, last seen in 2004’s GTA San Andreas. While graphically San Andreas doesn’t hold up all too well against modern games, GTAV looks amazing, with Los Santos and the surrounding countryside (the trailer showed terrain varying from mountains to wind farms) looking as you would expect on current generation games consoles. Sadly, no more information than the trailer itself was forthcoming, we have no release date or even console information, though it’s safe to assume the PS3 and Xbox 360 will feature the open-world title, and a 2012 release date seems probable. It certainly somewhat steals the thunder of ‘’Saints Row the Third’’, releasing in the UK next Friday!
Modern Warfare 3 Kills Child to Remain Edgy - Following on from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's representation of terrible war crimes with the 'No Russian' level (NSFW), developers Infinity Ward are continuing the shock factor (and potentially the buzz from outraged press to 'ban this sick filth') by including a cutscene where a family with a young girl are filming a holiday video in London and are caught up in a chemical explosion. The involvement of civilians in war has been a consistent theme through the Modern Warfare series, though it's up for debate whether they handle it well - or if a First Person Shooter series is best for discussing it.
Another Humble Bundle on Sale The Humble Bundle seems to be an increasingly common occurrence in the world of games. For the unfamiliar, a Humble Bundle consists of several indie games based on a pay-what-you-want scheme - anything from $0.01 upwards (but we know Yorker readers are more generous than that!). The money is then distributed between the games’ developers, as well as the charities Child’s Play and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The bundle currently on offer features voxel-based shoot-em-up Voxatron as its flagship piece, however consumers who spend more than the average (currently $4.98) also get access to Blocks that Matter and The Binding of Isaac. Check it out, it’s for a good cause, and all the games are DRM-free, can be downloaded as many times as you want, and work on PC, Mac and even Linux!
The Most Charming Homicidal Treasure Hunter Visits Arabia - Treasure hunters prepare yourselves because Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception has released in the UK this week. The latest in a series of ruins exploration and gunfights developed by Naughty Dog, protagonist Nathan Drake has moved from searching for Shambala in Tibet to the Arabian Desert to look for the 'Atlantis of the Sands'. The production values of the previous Uncharted games have been incredibly high, boasting beautiful locations to riddle thugs with bullets and some top-notch voice acting to offset the action; and Uncharted 3 still maintains that high level of quality.
