A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.

Police sources revealed that a team of officers entered the premises of the popular takeaway just before the Easter holidays, arresting two people.
There is no problem at Efe's. I do my job, I sell pizzas. The immigration police do their job. I can't do anything about individuals.
One was removed from the UK while the other was released, but stripped of his employment rights after a spell in custody.
Despite initially denying the claims, Mr Efe told The Yorker in an interview: "There is no problem at Efe's. I do my job, I sell pizzas. The immigration police do their job. I can't do anything about individuals."
He claimed that the person deported didn't work at Efe's but was a "friend" of a staff member and visited often. He has denied the arrest of the second person, despite confirmation from the police.
The UK Home Office and Borders Agency confirmed the raid, telling The Yorker: "Police conducted an enforced entry into the premises. One worker was removed from the country. The other was released from custody but had their employment rights terminated."
Mr Efe claimed that he does all he can to check the documentation of workers and understands that the police were just doing their job. The Borders Agency confirmed that the raid occurred in February.
Efe's is the most popular takeaway for York students. Mr Efe has developed a cult status on campus for his personal touch with customers. He often gives away free drinks and has told students who have no money that they can pay for their food later.
New university policy recently saw the takeaway banned from delivering on campus, which provoked uproar from students.
A university statement said that any staff delivering on campus would be treated as "trespassing" and removed from the grounds.
Coincided with the launch, or perhaps the JJs2 outlet in question has been open since last year? A very lame attempt at a commercial services snipe I feel, but boo hiss all the same.
Why is this so pro efe's.
I didn't see any uproar from students anywhere - not even on the comment forums. Is the Yorker sponsored by efe's!?
oh dear, now how on earth is reporting details of an arrest at Efe's that they themselves deny supposed to be pro-efe's? I sometimes wonder if some people are anti-yorker just for the sake of it.
Great exclusive. I'm suprised I din't hear about this sooner
Efes surely isn't the only place in York with illegal immigrants.
#3 - it wasn't an attack at the Yorker in general - I think there is usually far more balance in the Yorker's news reporting than that of Nouse and Vision - and as such the campus papers have been forced to follow.
However I think the statement that Efes is York's most popular takeaway is ridiculous. Where did it come from?
I have to agree with #7, I think Adam was probably feeling a little guilty for doing a sting on Efe's and then let his sentiments get the better of him. He won't be getting a free coke with his kebabs.
Maybe the fact that loads of students go there and everyone has heard of it...
I think claiming it's "the most" popular, despite the claim being a reasonable assumption, is not necessarily fair without evidence. "One of the most" would have been a better way of putting it I think, just like Carlsberg have to say "PROBABLY [my emphasis] the best lager in the world".
Oh yeah, I've gotta agree with #8, I think Thorn's trying to expand his empire of being "most hated man on campus" to "most hated man in York", starting with Efe's
Fair enough, but why weren't yours removed too?
Mitch, stop posting things about me that have absolutely nothing to do with the article in question. Seriously, have you not got some form of degree to get on with without making childish references to "the most hated man on campus?" Get over your self-conceived jokes and realise it adds nothing to anything. Things like that result in a fitting conclusion: Don't say them.
