James JCRC election results

James Ball
A new JCRC takes over
Sunday, 13th December 2009
James College election results were announced last night at the Royal York Hotel. Greeted with great enthusiasm by all who attended complete with drum rolls, screams and even tears, an ecstatic new JCRC began their reign in great form.

Tim Green, newly elected James College Chair, is confident that with so many returning JCRC members and promising new recruits, the team will be able to use their “wealth of experience… to get to improving (the College) straight away.” He stressed his goal to “put James events on the map” and hopes to harness the “enthusiasm and the experience (of the JCRC) to improve every single aspect of James College this year.” He certainly made an impact on ball attendees donning a top hat and carrying a bottle of champagne to celebrate his victory.

Tom Hobohm, services Vice-Chair told the Yorker “I honestly believe that James now has one of the strongest executive bodies of any of the colleges on campus.” Tom is looking forward to getting involved and has already organised “a sponsorship sub-team to hit the town and negotiate the college some fantastic deals.” He also has plans to spend the Christmas holidays with Chair Tim sprucing up the college website. A major force behind the organization of this year’s winter ball along with former vice chair Will Laurie, Tom produced a fabulous event which raised £250 for RAG.

Kate Copson, student development Vice-Chair, explained to the Yorker that she trekked “round the blocks in torrential rain knocking on windows telling people about why I was the best candidate!” With such dedication, Kate is set to be a great vice and she certainly appreciates her narrow victory over fellow contestant Samuel Baines. She warned that “James College is only going one way...UP.”

Robert Hughes, welfare Vice-Chair, was unopposed, but campaigned nevertheless in order to raise awareness for welfare issues. He is confident that “we’ve got a really strong team this year” and is looking forward to working with the new welfare team. Regarding the college ball, Robert commented that “it looked really professional, and everyone seemed to be having a brilliant time. I think it's testament to the organisation and dedication of the exiting James JCRC that the event went smoothly and was so well-received.”

The evident strength of the new JCRC will undoubtedly be put to the test next year, however, with such enthusiasm the team is sure to succeed.
