Cocktail Society: Roses 2011 cocktail countdown

Roses 2011
Get into the spirit with themed cocktails
Sunday, 8th May 2011
So we here at Cocktail Society are getting pretty excited about Roses and with only a week to go we thought we’d start giving you guys some ideas for showing you’re York, or Lancaster, pride in your drinks.

Day 1

For white Yorkists:

Velvet Hammer

  • 1 measure triple sec
  • 1 measure crème de cacao (preferably white)
  • 4 measures cream

Place all the ingredients into a glass with ice, shake and strain into a cocktail glass.

For red Lancastrians:

Strawberry Daiquiri

  • 1 measure white rum
  • 1 measure strawberry liqueur
  • A dash of lemon juice
  • 4 ripe strawberries

Simply place the ingredients along with a handful of crushed ice into a blender and zap until well-blended. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a strawberry.

Day 2

White Lady Cocktail

  • 1½ ounces gin
  • ¾ Cointreau
  • ¾ ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice

Some White Lady recipes include an egg white for volume and texture – add one if you want a bit of frothy oomph to your cocktail.

Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a cocktail glass. Simple, sophisticated, and strong!

Red Berry Mojito

  • Handful mint leaves
  • 1 shot sugar syrup
  • 4 strawberries
  • 4 raspberries
  • Juice of a lime
  • 1½ shots white rum
  • Soda water

Put the mint, sugar syrup, berries and lime juice in a highball glass. Using a wooden spoon, lightly mash together, trying to avoid breaking the leaves. Fill the glass with crushed ice and add the rum. Stir well. Top up with soda water, and serve.
