The Singles Club: Se7enth Edition

Se7en
Old Number 7
Tuesday, 19th February 2008
Check out a whole new batch of singles in the only place where the music don't stop and the funk keeps coming. Seriously though, check out what's up this week in the Singles Club, and don't worry it's not really an 80s bar.

Boy Kill Boy - Promises

Boy Kill Boy's new single has a bit of everything as far as indie goes. Parts of it make you want turn it off after 10 seconds but then once you get into it and here the catchy falsetto chorus and slightly emotive lyrics, you're hooked. The track starts off very, very simple with a single chord on every down beat. The build up to the final minute of the song takes just the right amount of time and makes for a very satisfying track

Art of Brut - Pump Up the Volume

The beginning of Art Brut’s latest single Pump up the Volume is cute. The first five seconds feature the vocalist mimicking the staccato baseline. The speaking-to-a-slight-rhythm vocals that follow, however, fail to impress. The track is redeemed by a lively guitar interlude and humorous lyrics, but the driving question, ‘Is it so wrong to break from your kiss to turn up a pop song?’, seems pretty irrelevant.
