Make Model - The LSB

 Make Model - The LSB
Make Model

This crisp, bubbly single from Make Model initially promised to be a refreshing little number but the indie-bopping title track turned Panda Pop upon reaching the overly fructose-laden, cheap da da - da da da da chorus (Not again..!). Better was the dancehall-pop B-side, a slightly more full-bodied effort offering a fairly original blend of two genres that that rarely mix.

Royworld – Dust

If heartbreak had a bright side this how it would sound. Rife with catchy melodies, the sonic depth varies from a crashing thunderclap only to be stripped down to a heartfelt murmur all lead by frontman Rod’s sincere and dynamic vocals. Casting away the gimmicks of modern indie, it’s clear that Royworld can hold their own with the best of them – definitely here to make a big noise in 2008.

Crystal Castles - Alice Practice

Crystal Castles
Crystal Castles

Using an Atari card for their keyboard, Crystal Castles create an amalgamation between sweet, cavity inducing majesty and video game heaven. While at times you want to cringe at the sheer force and ear screeching noises, you can't help but tune into the unique sugar rush of Crystal Castles.

Crisis – Consequences

This all-star charity track for anti-drink group Crisis feels little more than contrived. The verse resembles a daytime TV ad whilst the lyrics peak at the unimaginative would-be hook of ‘the consequences are dear’. Despite this, something about this upbeat and generic effort just keeps ringing in your head. Like the charity buzzards bothering you in the street; it may be annoying but it’s not going away without a fight.

I'll be honest, i've not heard of any of these people.

I think these lot need to sort themselves out and get proper record deals. That bloke from Crystal Castle could definitely do with a bath and a shave, he looks like a right scruffbag. They're not going to let him on Jools Holland looking like that.

And as for crisis, well, there’s nothing rock and roll about not drinking. Call me old fashioned, but I want my pop stars to be on at least one class A drug.
